Stephen has worked at local fine dining restaurants for 2 decades, with stints at Bin 54 and Four Square in Durham. Most recently, Stephen was Pastry Chef for Toro and Littler in downtown Durham. Over this time, he has stayed true to his form: a satisfying yet not overwhelming final course that is full-bodied, but not too saccharine. In late 2017, Stephen and his wife, Lindsey applied to become an inaugural stall at the Durham Food Hall, one of the first in the Triangle area. Their business name “Afters” signifies items one eats after a meal.
Because it’s often so hard to choose which item one wants from a dessert menu, afters will offer “flights” – small, elegant, and fun desserts. Diners can select 3 items off a broad menu with selections for every type of diet. Three types of cookies are also available, baked to order and served with icy milk.
Stephen also offers a full dessert catering menu from a gourmet cookie cake to handmade chocolates. Look out for seasonal specialties, locally sourced produce, and collaborations with fellow Food Hall colleagues.
Stephen and Lindsey are looking forward to having a small business of their own, demonstrating to their children, AP (8) and Carter Mae (5) the value of hard work, perseverance and creativity, characteristics born and bred at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. #GDTBATH
